Pretty Greek Villas

Diodentra, Peloponnese, Peloponnese, Greece.

A wonderful property with magnificent views across the Gulf of Corinth. Sleeping 8 - 10 guests in a luxurious setting this property provides a great setting for a self catering holiday in a Greek Villa.

Villa Diodentra takes its name from two magnificent age-old cypress trees that punctuate the skyline. From its lofty hillside position, the property enjoys panoramic sea views taking in a few hundred kilometres of coastline from east to west, and from north one has spectacular views of the mountains of central Greece which are often snow-capped until April.

Villa Diodentra is a very spacious property on 3 levels that is ideal for parties of up to 10 guests. From the driveway, a stone stairway sweeps up through the garden to the central level of the property. Here, there is a stunning open-plan living space with large and comfortable L-shaped sofa and armchairs around the open fireplace; next to this is the ‘Observatory’ with comfortable leather reclining chairs and telescope. To the far side is a dining area with seating for up to 10 guests as well as a very stylish kitchen which is fully equipped as one would expect for a property of this calibre. The whole space has been designed to take full advantage of the views with large French windows opening out fully to a huge verandah that is wrapped around the front of the property. On this verandah, there is a dining table seating 10-12 comfortably as well as a smaller BBQ. For those days when you want to have a lazy lunch by the pool, the kitchen has a door leading out to a patio and steps that take you directly down to the pool level.

To the back of this central level is a landing that takes you through to a twin bedroom which has French Windows leading out onto a quiet patio. There is also a bathroom with shower and WC next to this. This bathroom can be accessed either from the hallway or directly from the bedroom. A marble staircase leads to the lower and upper levels of the property.

Upstairs, there is a twin bedroom and a double bedroom which share a bathroom with shower. These two bedrooms access a very large verandah which looks straight out over the sea. The master bedroom with its own ensuite bathroom with shower and WC, is along the corridor. This bedroom has its own private verandah also with wonderful sea views.

Continuing down the marble staircase to the lowest level, there is a very spacious and tasteful lounge-bar with comfortable futons and places to chill out whilst watching a movie on the TV or DVD player or listening to music. One of futons converts to a double bed and with a bathroom with shower also on this level makes it a practical solution for extra guests.

This lounge-bar is right next to the swimming pool terrace – so all you need do is step outside and slip into the deliciously cool water. Your gaze is instantly drawn to the seemingly endless sea view before you. The swimming pool terrace also has a large BBQ and pool-side dining area. Surrounding the whole property are terraced gardens cascading with colour and variety.

One can sit for hours at this property gazing at the endless sea views and the ever-changing colours of the sea surrounded by utter stillness and quiet. For those guests who can tear themselves away, there is plenty to see and do in this area.

The local village is situated below the property (a 2 min drive/10 min walk). This is a traditional Peloponnesian village which is lively in the summer months with Athenian families who holiday here. Around the village square are a few cafes and tavernas and on the edge of the village is an excellent music bar set in a leafy garden. The nearest beaches are at the bottom of the village (about 5 mins drive) and amongst these is an excellent beach bar – fun and a chilled-out atmosphere by day and a sophisticated and very beautiful bar by night that has become justly famous for its incredible setting. There are plenty of other beach bars, cafes and tavernas to choose from including some that offer water sports.

The Peloponnese has always been a region rich in culture and history. Most of the major archaeological sites can be found here – Ancient Corinth, Mycenae and Argos are all within easy driving distance as are the Venetian towns of Nafplion and Nafpaktos. Also by local car ferry, you can cross the the Gulf of Corinth and visit the ancient site of Delphi. Villa Diodentra is also very well located for those who enjoy skiing in winter since the ski resort of Kalavrtya – Greece’s second largest – is only about a 45 min drive away. For those who enjoy walking, cycling and country pursuits this is a perfect place to discover Greece’s innate natural beauty.
