Pretty Greek Villas

Sophia, Santorini, Cyclades, Greece.

Fabulous, restored mansion, in traditional style but combining modern comforts in a harmonious setting. Villa Sophia sleeps 4 guests in two bedrooms and has a wonderful courtyard garden with swimming pool. The tourist attractions of Santorini, including Fira and Oia, are only a short drive away.

This restored mansion is perfect for those ready to switch of their mobiles, put up their feet, sit back and enjoy a unique side of Santorini

Away from the popular and busy villages of Fira and Oia, that offer views of the famous caldera, Megalchori brings a welcomed alternative to the island of Santorini. This traditional, peaceful village with its pretty churches and Venetian bell towers, winding cobbled pathways and attractive square offering several excellent tavernas, provides guests to this famous island with an opportunity to experience the old fashioned life style of Santorini.

Villa Sophia has been sensitively restored retaining many of its original, charming features but adding modern, comfortable furniture which make a perfect harmonious blend of old and new.
The imposing large wooden gated entrance opens onto a secluded, cobbled courtyard. There is a swimming pool in the centre, perfect for cooling off on those hot summer days and teak sun-beds line the perimeter. This lovely scene is infused by scents from a profusion of Mediterranean flowers and herbs.

Double doors lead directly from the courtyard into a spacious lounge and dining area with superb, high vaulted ceilings and original polished wooden floors, adding warmth and character to the interior. The two double bedrooms, one master and one smaller second bedroom, are located either side of the central living room. The master bedroom has a majestic four-poster double bed. One bathroom, with modern amenities, serves both bedrooms. There is a well equipped kitchen which features an original stone arch which now serves as a washing up and preparation area. The coup-de-grace is the lovely kitchen garden, perfect for enjoying alfresco meals under blue skies whilst absorbing the village atmosphere.

Villa Sophia was built around the mid 19th century and inhabited by one of the feudal landlords of the island at that time. These merchants and land barons became wealthy exporting the unique Vinsanto wine the island still produces. Trade brought wealth and wealth brought the Mansion Houses. Megalochori had a particularly strong link with the town of Odessa in Russia. Many of the church bells which still toll in the village today are from Russia and have a very distinct clarity.

This Villa is perfect for those ready to switch of their mobiles, put up their feet, sit back and enjoy an alternative side to Santorini. The tourist attractions, including Fira and Oia, are only a short drive away.
