House of the Nightingales
An oasis of calm with private pool, beautiful garden and close to the Old Harbour and beach
House of the Nightingales is a beautifully renovated Sea Captain's House dating from the 19th Century.
Its pure island atmosphere, simple refined decoration, visual splendour and exquisite garden offer a peaceful sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of the island and yet only a short walk away from the Old Harbour.
Three separate buildings make up the property. The main house is on two levels. Downstairs is a lovely, airy living room featuring traditional in-built sofas with plenty of comfortable cushions set around a fireplace. On this level there are 2 bedrooms each with twin beds which share a bathroom. Upstairs is a magnificent virani style master bedroom with double bed, living area with in-built divans that can sleep 2-3 extra guests, as well as bathroom. The property has wonderful carved vaulted ceilings and still features the original thick stone-flagged floors.
The guest house is situated opposite the swimming pool and features a peaceful guest double bedroom with en-suite bathroom.
The very pretty third building houses the kitchen which is fully equipped and has a cosy indoor dining area for cooler months.
Just outside the kitchen is a large outdoor dining terrace shaded by a pergola as well as comfortable outdoor living area. It is the perfect spot to sit and enjoy the scents and colours of this beautifully planted garden with its three mature jacaranda trees with their delicate silvery-purple blossoms, the cloudy-blue of the plumbago tumbling over the walls and the night-scented jasmine growing in profusion. At the heart of the garden is a lovely swimming pool (10m x 4m) with spacious sunbathing area.
The property has WIFI and air-conditioning in all four bedrooms. Included in the price is a housekeeper who cleans everyday except Sundays. The housekeeper is also an excellent cook so it is possible to arrange cooking in advance at an hourly rate.
House of the Nightingales is situated in a very quiet position just off a small laneway within easy walking distance of both the Old Harbour and Aghia Marina Paradise Beach. The Old Harbour has an excellent choice of restaurants, cafes and bars along the quayside. Aghia Marina beach has an excellent beach bar and various watersports available.
For those looking for a restful holiday and a peaceful retreat, this little oasis of calm is perfect. On still summer evenings you may even be able to catch the delicate sound high up in the jacaranda trees of a lone nightingale singing.

Our stay was splendid and the house exceeded our expectations. It is quite unusual to stay in a rental property which has been renovated, decorated and designed with such good taste. So many thanks to Madame Thuvenon (I think) on that score.
All the travel connections worked perfectly and the trip was quite stress free as a result. Rita the housekeeper was terrific both as a cleaner and as a cook.

Thank you for your e-mail. We really enjoyed staying at the House of the Nightingales - a really fabulous villa. A little more information about the house itself would have been appreciated.
