Danae Cottage

Angistri

Traditional Greek Villa with an artistic twist

View Gallery

Perfect for a family looking to experience traditional Greek life on the lesser known island of Angistri.

On the pine-scented island of Angistri, this rustic little house has been charmingly and cleverly restored. Towards the rear of the courtyard are steps leading to an open veranda with views to the green mountains of the island. It is a great area for al fresco dining, reading a book or simply chatting to a friend over a glass of local wine.

The main part of the cottage has a cosy sitting-room with fireplace, dining area separated by an old wooden screen, a dreamily peaceful master bedroom with wrought iron double bed and a well equipped kitchen and bathroom. A steep staircase accesses a bedroom upstairs with a single bed and its own little ‘ouzo terrace’, a great area for star gazing. A second staircase leads down beneath the main house to an area which used to be the animal quarters. Here, there is a spacious bedroom painted in brilliant white and offering a built in double bed.

Back in the courtyard filled with flowers, a large green door leads into a charming bedroom with its own fireplace. White washed walls and blood red floor bring a traditional but charming feel to this little bedroom with two in built in beds.

Since Angistri is one of the smaller islands of the Saronic Gulf, Danae cottage is well located to access all beaches and amenities and some lovely walks can be explored during the cooler months of the year.

From Piraeus (Athens) it takes 60 minutes by hydrofoil (Flying Dolphin), or 1 hr 40 minutes by conventional ferrry. The larger nearby island of Aegina is a 10 minute boat ride away and offers some great water-sports facilities, an aqua-land and other day trip activities, including the ancient temple of Aphaia and the medieval ruins of Palaia Chora. It is also possible to visit Athens for the day, if you select your boat times smartly.

Maiken U. arrived 3th Aug 2015

Just wanted to send a quick note (currently in Athens airport) to say how very much we enjoyed our stay on Angistri. The house was simply stunning -- the photos on the website don't do it full justice -- and it was heavenly. Both the written instructions and Athinas showing us around were extremely helpful (as well as highly entertaining.) Although the walk back up from Skala is quite steep in the heat, we managed absolutely fine without a car (only on two days did we feel exhausted enough to wimp out and go by taxi, which proved very fast and cheap). We toured the island by boat to discover other beaches, and also did a day trip to Aegina. It was the perfect holiday, and we shall certainly recommend it to friends.

Best wishes,
Maiken
