Colourful, artistic villa with 5 bedrooms, private pool set in large grounds with direct access to the sea just below the property

Villa Gaia radiates happiness and an artistic charm. Named after Gaia who was one of the primal elements who first emerged at the dawn of creation along with air, sea and sky. The property is that rare combination of having private access to the sea together with large private swimming pool, artistic decor and a taverna just up the road.

Entering from the main hallway, the property opens out onto a very large open plan room with indoor dining area for 8 guests and a fully equipped kitchen to the right. A couple of steps lead down to a large living room which has plenty of comfortable sofas and chairs. The owner’s artistic eye with its incredible attention for detail is evident throughout the room from the beautifully combined dining table with antique chairs upholstered in individually chosen fabrics to the paintings and artwork that has been joyfully put together over the years.

From the living area, doors lead out onto a contemporary style glass conservatory – the doors of which can be opened up entirely to the garden. This contains a large dining area for 10 guests with fantastic views over miles of coastline.

On this ground floor level, there are three bedrooms: the first bedroom is to the front of the house overlooking the garden with 2 single antique beds; the second bedroom also with 2 single beds and has French windows leading to the garden with views over the sea. These two bedrooms share a large bathroom with bath and shower and both bedrooms have their own door accessing this bathroom. The 3rd bedroom has a small, antique double bed with French windows leading out to the garden also with views over the sea. This bedroom has its own separate bathroom with shower.

The master bedroom is on the upper level with king size double bed and en-suite bathroom with bath and shower. Doors lead out onto a private terrace with views over the garden, pool and sea.

All bedrooms are beautifully and artistically decorated, and the bathrooms are well appointed featuring stunning antique tiles.

A pathway through the grounds leads to the guest house with its open plan space comprising a 2nd master bedroom with living area, small kitchenette and bathroom.

The villa has air-conditioning, WIFI, SAT TV and maid service twice a week.

The property is set within very large, private grounds with absolutely stunning views over miles of coastline with the rocky outline of the uninhabited island of Dias just ahead. For families, the spacious and wide lawns are perfect for children to run and play. There is also an organic vegetable garden with plenty of produce that guests can enjoy as well as a large orchard with many different kinds of fruit trees. The focal point of the garden is the very large swimming pool* with plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas. For guests who enjoy barbecuing, there is a whole building dedicated to this with large temperature-controlled wood barbecue and huge, tiled outdoor dining table with seating for around 20 guests all under the shade of a pergola with the orchard surrounding it.

Steep steps lead from the edge of the garden down to the seashore where there is a rocky cove as good as private to this property from which guests can swim. Guests need to be aware though that great care needs to be taken and good footwear worn when using these steps since they can be very slippery when wet. Approx 100m to the left is the beautiful, unspoilt and secluded sandy beach of Aii Heli which guests can swim to easily from this property.

There is also a small jetty located just 300m further down the coast from the property (a few minutes by car since there is no pathway along the coast at this point). Here, there are boats for hire and it’s a fabulous experience to be able to explore the many islands and coves that lie off this southern part of Kefalonia.

There is one taverna within walking distance of the property. The small village of Svoronata is about 2 mins drive away where there are a couple of tavernas and three small supermarkets. Kefalonia airport is about a 10 min drive away. Argostoli which is the main town of the island is just 10 mins drive away too. Argostoli has always been an affluent ship-owners town so it has a cosmopolitan atmosphere with some excellent restaurants, cafes and bars that can be found around its elegant town square or along its palm-lined boulevard. Argostoli also has a busy fishing harbour and guests can buy just-caught fish off the colourful caique boats in the mornings and there is also a large vegetable and fruit market with a dazzling array of fresh produce.

With its private and quiet location, proximity to the sea, large pool and garden, Villa Gaia is suitable for large family gatherings looking for a relaxed island holiday away from the crowds.

Thank you again for all your help. We had a memorable holiday. We had a wonderful week at Villa Gaia and the family are reluctantly back in England.

Lee M. arrived 20th July 2019

The villa was overall lovely. Well equipped, very pretty with some lovely artwork. It was the perfect size for our party size and everyone was pleased with the bedrooms and living space. The steps down to the sea was a real bonus and we loved using these. Costa and the housekeeper were lovely.

Vanessa B. arrived 8th Sept 2018

We had a truly wonderful holiday and will be back next year, maybe to the same villa.

John D. arrived 1st Sept 2018

We have all returned safely to England after a superb week at Villa Gaia . It is a wonderful villa in a great location right next to the sea and the view across to Zakynthos . The grandchildren had a terrific time in the garden ( so much space for them ) and particularly in the beautiful swimming pool where their swimming came on in leaps and bounds. We headed off to different beaches but mainly to Avithos which was so good for the young ones . One day , our two daughters swam there from the villa - diving off the rocks, rounding the headland and swimming the mile to Avithos beach. Kosta was delightful and a real hit with the children , his lack of English not being a barrier at all . And Garafina cooked us a delicious supper.  Thank you again for all your help with our great holiday - one we will all always remember for so many reasons.

Jessica D. arrived 28th July 2018

Thank you very much for helping us enjoy such a lovely week. We were very happy with the villa and all your arrangements- and would definitely use PGV again. I will also be recommending you to friends. Please pass on my thanks to Marie-Louise, who was also very organised and helpful.

Wendy G. arrived 2th Sept 2017

We had a wonderful holiday at Villa Gaia. Thank you so much for organising this for us.

Clive and Nicky R. arrived 27th May 2017

We had a great time on Kefalonia. Probably one of our most favourite Greek Islands that we first visited about 30 years ago and have been back a few times since. Our holidays to Greece since our first trip have taken in many islands as well as a great trip to Athens which we throughly enjoyed. Villa Gaia can only be described as quirky with the owners artistic flair. I was impressed with the speed of attention to the faulty overflowing water tank in the separate bedroom in the grounds. This had obviously been building up for a while. All was sorted whilst we were out having dinner at the Esperides Taverna on the way down to Avithos Beach. We wanted something a little special to celebrate a 60th & 65th birthday in our party along with a retirement and this taverna was perfect. Well worth you recommending to your guests.

We had a wonderful time at villa Gaia.

Sophie W. arrived 31th July 2016

We have just returned from a great holiday in Kefalonia. Both houses - Amongst the Olives & Villa Gaia - were great in different ways and we would recommend either.

Lara C. arrived 9th July 2016

I stayed at Villa Gaia in Kefalonia with Lara for 10 days from 9th July. Whilst the villa is only a 15 minute drive to the airport, we were in no way bothered by any aircraft noise. The planes land infrequently and only during acceptable hours. Villa Gaia itself is fantastic; it is very well appointed and in huge grounds. All bedrooms have air-conditioning (although none in the main lounge) and are all modern and very clean. It has a lovely salt-water swimming pool which is of a very good size. An amazing feature is that the villa has its own steps down to the sea (although these are very steep in parts); you can clamber down the cliff and jump into the most beautiful sea. From there, it ís a 300 metre swim to the nearest beach. On the odd occasion where something did go happen with the villa there is a local caretaker who is incredibly helpful and willing to get involved. Overall, I cannot fault this property: all nine of us had an amazing time and would certainly return. Also in my view, the best beaches (i.e. not so crowded) were within 30 minutes drive of Villa Gaia.

Nicholas C. arrived 5th August 2015

It was great!

Janet T. arrived 31th May 2015

We are all back in the UK now and had a lovely time at Gaia thank you very much. We had super weather, Rory did a cracking job and all the taxis, cars etc worked perfectly.

Caroline A. arrived 12th May 2015

We did have a fantastic time in Kefalonia at villa Gaia, which is very beautiful and suited us well. The property manager Kostas couldn't have been more accommodating. He brought us vegetables every day and washed down our sandy beach stuff - all above and beyond our expectations. All of these things aside, we loved the house and particularly the gardens, it is a very special place and we wouldn't't have changed it for the world. Thank you very much for putting us in touch with such lovely accommodation and also your recommendation of car hire - we received great service.
