A stony track winds up through the olive trees with verdant meadows carpeted in wild flowers. The musical note of grazing sheep completes the pastoral picture. Villa Alkionida sings of the rosy halcyon days of summer and cosy winter evenings.

Alkionida is an old farmhouse with guest cottage that has been lovingly restored with a sensitive and artistic eye. The living room is a cool, airy and comfortable space in the summer months and in the winter with its log fire is a cosy retreat. The kitchen combines both old and new with modern facilities alongside traditional features such as the original bread oven. Both the spacious terrace overlooking the garden and pool, and the inside dining area are delightful places for relaxing and enjoying some good home cooking.

Upstairs is a huge, airy master bedroom with antique four poster bed and ensuite bathroom. There is also a single bed in this room.

The adjoining cottage is equally pretty with an open plan kitchen and living room with comfortable furnishings and many charming features. The bedroom has three single beds and a separate bathroom with shower and WC. Two extra guests can be accommodated on a single sofa bed in the cottage living room and a divan bed in the main farmhouse living room.

The surrounding gardens are full of sweet smelling herbs and flowers with an enticingly inviting swimming pool. There are magnificent views of Kefallonia and the Ionian Sea.

Alkionida is perfect for families wanting to experience the bounteous beauty of rural Greece at its best. The nearest village is about 2 kms distance and is a traditional village on the edge of the Askos Natural Reserve with family run tavernas offering local organic dishes. The nearest beach is a short drive away and the famous Shipwreck Beach can be visited by boat from the local harbour of Agios Nikolaos. For the 2008 season guests can benefit from satellite internet connection and enjoy new eco-air coolers in the bedrooms.
