A wonderful stone property offering a high standard of accommodation for up to 10 guests.

Hydroussa was the ancient name for the island, meaning ‘well-watered’. Andros is unlike the other Cycladic islands since its mountains and lush valleys are filled with pines, sycamores, mulberries and oak trees which are watered by a myriad of springs, streams and waterfalls.

The Hydroussa estate extends to 30,000 sq metres and is planted with olives, citrus and cypress trees. Nestled in the hillside with spectacular views over Korthi Bay is the main house with guest cottage sleeping up to 10 guests.

The main house is of local stone and has been restored with great sensitivity and with comfort and elegance in mind. There is a large living room with dining area and well equipped kitchen and with many areas for dining al fresco either by the swimming pool or one of the many terraces overlooking the bay below.

The master bedroom suite has a double bed, living area and large bathroom. On this level, there is also a 2nd double bed with its own shower room. Connecting these two bedrooms is a large veranda from which can be accessed one of the oldest parts of the house. This rounded tower like room used to be the place where the bread was baked in a huge oven which is now the 3rd double bedroom. A few steps down from this room is a utility room and bathroom. Next to this is the 4th double bedroom which has a very pretty bathroom – at one time this was the stable.

Across from the main house, the dovecot has recently been restored to provide a beautiful retreat with double bedroom and bathroom.

Immediately surrounding the villa are various flower gardens as well as a wonderful organic vegetable garden – the gardener supplies guests with fresh vegetables and fresh eggs each day from the estate. The swimming pool is surrounded by stone walls and looks out over the estate to the sea below.

Villa Hydroussa is located in the village of Amonakliou about a 5 min drive from the Bay of Korthi and its marina town.

Foreign tourism is still in its early stages in Andros – the island has always been wealthy since medieval times through silk production and in more recent times through shipping. It’s considered an island for the cultured elite and has one of the most important modern art galleries in Greece as well as a very fine archaelogical museum founded by the Goulandris shipping family who live on the island.

The architecture and landscape of Andros are very different to that of the rest of the Cyclades with beautiful stone houses, hillsides covered in stone terracing and unusual dove cots with square towers whose pigeon holes are decorated with geometric designs.

The main town of the island, known as Andros Town, is particularly attractive with an impressive marble promenade where there are some very elegant restaurants, cafes, bars and boutique shops but without the price tag of comparable islands such as Mykonos or Santorini. The coastline has many lovely, sandy beaches and the island offers watersports and sailing through the island’s main sailing club, The Andros Naval Club, at Nimborio.
