A wonderful, romantic and secluded neo-classical house situated in a private estate with direct beach access and jetty
The Captain's Hideaway is an absolutely unique property that is set above its own secluded cove on the island of Spetses. An ancient smugglers' pathway leads you from the jetty up to this neo-classical house that is surrounded by a pine-scented forest.
This handsome 19th Century house is all on one level. A bright and very spacious living room delightfully decorated in Mediterranean colours is a wonderful and comfortable place to sit and relax surrounded by the coolness of the forest and with glimpses of the dazzling sea below. A well-equipped kitchen is situated off this main living room. There are two double bedrooms each with views of the surrounding gardens and woodland. A bathroom with large shower area is shared by the two bedrooms. There are also two single divans in the living room for 2 extra guests. A long, stone terrace to the front of the house is a perfect outdoor dining spot. The property is also unique in that it is off the National Grid for electricity. At night when the candles and gas-lamps are lit, the house and garden take on a magical atmosphere. There is air-conditioning throughout with new solar panels and a state-of-the-art generator to provide back-up so that all modern comforts and facilities can be used.
The Hideaway is the only property situated on this peninsula and is surrounded by natural pine forest that stretches right down to the seashore. Throughout the garden and woodland, there are many peaceful places to sit, relax and contemplate the views surrounded by pristine nature. Hours can be spent watching the dolphins swim and play in the bay below.
Whenever you feel like a cool dip in the sea, the sparkling cove with its crystalline waters is only steps away. It is as good as private to this property since the only access to the beach is via the property's own grounds. The villa also has two sea kayaks for guests' use.
By quad bike it is easy to get into Spetses Town for shopping or for an evening out at one of Spetses' sophisticated water-side bars or restaurants. Boat hire can sometimes be arranged for guests who have a power boat licence, and the boat can be moored at the jetty below the villa. On Spetses there are watersports available at Kaiki Beach, Aghia Marina and Ayii Anargiri.
Spetses is the southern most island in the Saronic group and has an aristocratic heritage evident in the many beautiful neo-classical mansions that line its harbour. The island has a sophisticated variety of restaurants, cafes, bars and shops and has always been a favourite holiday destination of the Athenians. There are frequent boat connections from Pireaus, the Peloponnese, and surrounding islands.

We've enjoyed every minute of our stay here. The house and location are very special and just the kind of place that we look for when we go away. Quiet, quirky with lots of character and bags of style. So bored of grey and white interiors!!
