Villa Elfina lies above the Bay of Sami in an area of outstanding natural beauty. The majesty of Mount Aenos with hillsides thick with cypress forests plunging down to the wide expanse of the bay, wild horses, tinkling goat bells, ancient mule paths, crumbling stone villages and the slow pace of island life. This is pure Kefalonia, far removed from any tourist trail.
The villa is spacious and modern with well designed accommodation all on one level. From the main entrance, there is a very well-equipped and stylish kitchen opening out onto an open-plan living room with comfortable sofas and chairs and dining area. Large glass doors lead out onto a spacious verandah with outdoor dining table and chairs overlooking the magnificent view. Continuing along the corridor are three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The master double bedroom has an ensuite bathroom with bath-tub and shower, and its own terrace overlooking the Bay. Next to this room is the 2nd double bedroom also with its own sea-facing terrace. The third bedroom is spacious with 2 single beds. These two bedrooms share a spacious bathroom with shower.
The villa is very well equipped and furnished with air-conditioning, WIFI, dishwasher, and a kitchen that anyone with a passion for cooking would enjoy. A washing machine is also available.
From the villa, steps lead down to the pool terrace and garden – and what better place to enjoy the magnificence of the surrounding scenery. With so much of Greek summer life being outdoors, the space has been designed particularly well – plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas around the generous pool terrace, a large outdoor dining area under the shade of a gazebo, a fantastic bar area adjoining the large barbecue – in itself a work of art hand-crafted by a local artisan.
The villa sits in a very private and quiet position and although it is a 10 min drive to the nearest beach ‘Paradisso’ close to Sami it is a beautiful drive through the old neighbouring village of Chaliotata (where the entrance to the Drogarati Cave with its impressive stalactites and stalagmites is found) and through olive groves to the sea. The nearest shops and tavernas can be found in Sami. If you continue southwards for another 5 mins or so, you reach the large beach of Antisamos which has translucent water and is rich in marine life in the shallows so excellent for snorkelling. There are watersports available as well as tavernas and a very good beach bar/restaurant. Continuing northwards, you reach the fishing town of Aghia Efimia within approx. 15 mins’ drive of the villa – the town has an array of restaurants, cafes and bars along the marina as well as various shops. There are also boats for hire and a diving school. From Aghia Efimia, there is a daily ferry across to the island of Ithaka which is fun to visit for a day. However, for hikers, Villa Elfina is in a perfect spot lying at the foot of Mount Aenos with plenty of trails taking you right into the heart of this wild and majestic terrain where there are wild horses, eagles, shepherds living in the high pastures with flocks of goats, old Byzantine churches, the smell of pungent herbs as you tread the old paths. For serious hikers, it is possible in a day to hike from the villa right over the top of Kefalonia to the south side of the island and back. Horse-riding and trekking on the mountain is also available.
This is an ideal property for any family or group of friends who would prefer to relax at a villa that has great facilities in a peaceful and private setting, be content to drive to some excellent beaches and tavernas, and to experience and enjoy some of the aspects of ‘hidden Kefalonia’.
