Colourful, artistic villa with 5 bedrooms, private pool set in large grounds with direct access to the sea just below the property
Villa Gaia radiates happiness and an artistic charm. Named after Gaia who was one of the primal elements who first emerged at the dawn of creation along with air, sea and sky. The property is that rare combination of having private access to the sea together with large private swimming pool, artistic decor and a taverna just up the road.
Entering from the main hallway, the property opens out onto a very large open plan room with indoor dining area for 8 guests and a fully equipped kitchen to the right. A couple of steps lead down to a large living room which has plenty of comfortable sofas and chairs. The owner’s artistic eye with its incredible attention for detail is evident throughout the room from the beautifully combined dining table with antique chairs upholstered in individually chosen fabrics to the paintings and artwork that has been joyfully put together over the years.
From the living area, doors lead out onto a contemporary style glass conservatory – the doors of which can be opened up entirely to the garden. This contains a large dining area for 10 guests with fantastic views over miles of coastline.
On this ground floor level, there are three bedrooms: the first bedroom is to the front of the house overlooking the garden with 2 single antique beds; the second bedroom also with 2 single beds and has French windows leading to the garden with views over the sea. These two bedrooms share a large bathroom with bath and shower and both bedrooms have their own door accessing this bathroom. The 3rd bedroom has a small, antique double bed with French windows leading out to the garden also with views over the sea. This bedroom has its own separate bathroom with shower.
The master bedroom is on the upper level with king size double bed and en-suite bathroom with bath and shower. Doors lead out onto a private terrace with views over the garden, pool and sea.
All bedrooms are beautifully and artistically decorated, and the bathrooms are well appointed featuring stunning antique tiles.
A pathway through the grounds leads to the guest house with its open plan space comprising a 2nd master bedroom with living area, small kitchenette and bathroom.
The villa has air-conditioning, WIFI, SAT TV and maid service twice a week.
The property is set within very large, private grounds with absolutely stunning views over miles of coastline with the rocky outline of the uninhabited island of Dias just ahead. For families, the spacious and wide lawns are perfect for children to run and play. There is also an organic vegetable garden with plenty of produce that guests can enjoy as well as a large orchard with many different kinds of fruit trees. The focal point of the garden is the very large swimming pool* with plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas. For guests who enjoy barbecuing, there is a whole building dedicated to this with large temperature-controlled wood barbecue and huge, tiled outdoor dining table with seating for around 20 guests all under the shade of a pergola with the orchard surrounding it.
Steep steps lead from the edge of the garden down to the seashore where there is a rocky cove as good as private to this property from which guests can swim. Guests need to be aware though that great care needs to be taken and good footwear worn when using these steps since they can be very slippery when wet. Approx 100m to the left is the beautiful, unspoilt and secluded sandy beach of Aii Heli which guests can swim to easily from this property.
There is also a small jetty located just 300m further down the coast from the property (a few minutes by car since there is no pathway along the coast at this point). Here, there are boats for hire and it’s a fabulous experience to be able to explore the many islands and coves that lie off this southern part of Kefalonia.
There is one taverna within walking distance of the property. The small village of Svoronata is about 2 mins drive away where there are a couple of tavernas and three small supermarkets. Kefalonia airport is about a 10 min drive away. Argostoli which is the main town of the island is just 10 mins drive away too. Argostoli has always been an affluent ship-owners town so it has a cosmopolitan atmosphere with some excellent restaurants, cafes and bars that can be found around its elegant town square or along its palm-lined boulevard. Argostoli also has a busy fishing harbour and guests can buy just-caught fish off the colourful caique boats in the mornings and there is also a large vegetable and fruit market with a dazzling array of fresh produce.
With its private and quiet location, proximity to the sea, large pool and garden, Villa Gaia is suitable for large family gatherings looking for a relaxed island holiday away from the crowds.
