Elegant stone house situated close to a pictureque fishing village. Kamini House is a wonderfully artistic property with striking contemporary interiors harmonising perfectly with its traditional setting.
This stone property is located in private and quiet surroundings close to Kamini in an elevated position with sunset views over Dhokos island. Kamini House has been beautifully renovated and is perfect for summer living. Opposite the main house is a spacious stone building with a large open-plan kitchen and dining area. The kitchen is very well equipped and excellent for guests who enjoying cooking creatively on holiday. Outside the kitchen is a large outdoor dining area under a pergola clad in age-old vines.
Across from the kitchen building is the entrance to the main house.There are two bedrooms on the ground floor level of the main house - the 'Birds' Room is a strikingly beautiful double bedroom furnished with a mixture of antiques complementing the contemporary artwork. A hallway features a fabulous chandalier and its original 'kalami' ceiling made from antique dried reeds. At the end of the hallway is a 2nd bedroom with two single beds. Between these bedrooms is a stylish bathroom in jet with bath and shower, and a small but very smart kitchen which is very well equipped. The third bedroom is situated below the main terrace and has its own independent access. This room has a double bed and its own bathroom with shower.
Upstairs is an astonishing 'virani' type living room which was common in the wealthier houses of Hydra in the 18th and 19th Centuries. It is a really spacious, elegant room with vaulted ceiling and plenty of windows from which to enjoy the views. Unusually, the vaulted ceiling is in contemporary grey metal which gives a lightness and elegance to the structure complementing the stunning contemporary art work that runs the length of the walls. Doors lead to a very pretty balcony with delicate wrought iron-work. This is a lovely place to sit and enjoy the cool evening breeze looking out over the pan-tiled roofs of Kamini village with the sea glistening just beyond, and the sun setting over the island of Dhokos. Please note this 'virani' room has an open staircase so it may not be suitable for families with children who are not used to stairs.
Kamini House is surrounded by a cool, courtyard garden which gives a lushness to the setting with many trees, herbs and colourful flowers.The property is approximately a 5 min walk to the village of Kamini. Kamini is a lovely fishing village where it seems as if time has stood still with its little main square with stone houses clad in age-old vines and with its own small harbour lined with brightly painted fishing boats.
Despite the quietness of surroundings, Kamini boasts two of the best tavernas on the island with stunning views of the harbour and bay. For the beach, just walk 5 mins down the path and you come to some pretty coves. Baby Beach which is an organised beach with excellent beach bar is also only about a 5 min walk away. The village of Kamini is only about 15 mins walk from the main harbour and town of Hydra along the old battlements which are fringed with pine trees or it's easy to take a water taxi from Kamini harbour to the main harbour of Hydra town taking about 2-3 mins.
