Elegant historical house which has been fully transformed to create a luxurious villa with all modern comforts.
The Lemon Grove is a fully renovated stone property dating from the 1850 set in a green and verdant landscape of orange and lemon trees, olives and cypress. Its original features of thick stone walls, elegant arches, high ceilings and original fireplace have been retained and harmonise beautifully with the contemporary, comfortable furnishings transforming this noble property into a luxurious villa.
The property is divided into a main house and two guest houses. The main house has three levels. At the entrance level is a very comfortable and elegant living room with dining area. A thick stone archway leads into a separate and fully equipped kitchen. There is also a guest WC on this level. Large arched doorways lead from the kitchen and living/dining area to a very spacious verandah with outdoor living and dining areas overlooking the lush estate, private pool and the old well.
On the upper floor are 2 bedrooms each with en-suite bathroom. The master bedroom is very large with king-size double bed, sitting area and doors that lead onto a spacious verandah overlooking the garden. The 2nd bedroom can accommodate up to 4 guests and could work brilliantly for a family with children: There is a queen-size double bed on one level with a ladder to a mezzanine level above where two more guests can be accommodated.
The lowest level of the house is at garden level and is an independent guest suite with its own access from the garden. Here there is a bedroom with queen-size double bed, small living area with kitchenette and bathroom. We can also add a bed for a child in the living room area.
Above the pool area is a separate stone building with a queen-size double bedroom, seating area, bathroom and private side verandah.
To the front of the property is a beautiful swimming pool that is completely private and nestled into the surrounding countryside. Although the property does not have sea views, its views are just as rewarding to sit surrounded by pristine nature, in the stillness of the countryside with age-old cypress and olive trees with the coolness of an ancient well could be lifted straight from a Lawrence Durrell book.
The property is very well equipped with air-conditioning throughout, ceiling fans, SAT TV, WIFI, DVD, DVD library, private pool, alarm system, washing machine and dryer, dishwasher, Nespresso coffee machine, five bicycles and ample parking.
Andros is the greenest island of the Cyclades with sweet water springs, and is criss-crossed with a myriad of ancient mule-trails. The nearest beach is about 5 mins by bicycle or 15 mins walk away via a gentle path (or a few mins by car). There is an excellent taverna at the beach, as well as a taverna in the upper village which one can reach either by car or by foot via an uphill path. It is also only a short drive from the estate to elegant Chora the main town of the island with its wonderful architecture, restaurants, shops and cafes. For art lovers, one of Greece most important modern art galleries, the Goulandris Foundation Museum of Contemporary Art, is found in this town. The coastline has many glorious sandy beaches. Tourism is still in its infancy on this island which has always been considered, amongst Greeks at least, to be for the cultured elite.
The Lemon Grove is ideal for guests who appreciate architecture and design, and who are looking for a summer retreat on one of Greece more unusual and undiscovered islands and with relatively easy access via ferry from Athens.
