Once the home of olive pickers, ‘Old Wooden Doors’ has now become a beautiful residence offering a high standard of luxury without losing its traditional charm. It provides a lovely balance between traditional and modern which is a rare and special find.
The property is decorated in the traditional colours of Greece - classic white washed walls punctuated by the soft violet-blue woodwork. The floors throughout the property are of natural stone which blend harmoniously with the stone walls of the buildings and terracotta roof tiles. Surrounded by nature with views to the sea the whole situation is perfect.
Arched in stone a blue wooden gate leads into a central courtyard where 2 cottages are located. The first on the left is the heart of the property and home to a large living/dining room area and kitchen. The roof is wooden and painted white and the stone floor is a warm honey shade with large windows giving light to the space. The farmhouse style kitchen is fully fitted with beautifully hand-made wooded doors. The large wooden dining table with blue wooden chairs divides this lovely open plan living space and separates the kitchen from the comfortable living area. French doors lead to the swimming pool terrace.
The second cottage houses two bedrooms. The pretty decor continues with white wooden roof and stone flooring. There is a double bedroom with ensuite bathroom facilities, and a twin bedroom with ensuite shower and WC. Both of the bathroom fittings are modern and smart but retaining a simple styling in polished cement.
Back in the entrance courtyard there is a separate area close to the kitchen with BBQ. This is a charming space with a large outside dining area featuring a beautifully restored old wooden table with bougainvillea climbing the walls, and is perfect for al fresco meals on a summers evening.
Moving on through the little labyrinth of delightful stone corners we reach a small flight of stone steps. At the top of the steps a series of outside terraces is revealed. To the left is the entrance to the pool terrace and to the right is the continuation of the third and fourth cottages where the other bedrooms are located.
The third cottage contains two double bedrooms both with ensuite facilities. Both of these charming bedrooms have French style doors leading to a long terrace which overlooks the olive groves.
A final ‘central’ courtyard reveals the fourth cottage which is on two levels. The lower level consists of a twin bedroom with ensuite facilities and a ‘family’ bedroom. The family bedroom offers a bedroom which can be made up as a twin or a double and has a separate single bedroom. Both these bedrooms share a very well appointed ensuite shower and wc.
The upper level is accessed by a flight of stairs on the outside of the cottage and reveals a gorgeous, double bedroom suite with its own private balcony and terrace. This bedroom is one of the pretties rooms in the house and benefits from views over the entire property.
Old Wooden Doors is delightful! Each and every corner has been decorated with attention to detail, focusing on all the fundamental elements of traditional life but not ignoring the demand for luxury in the quality of the fixtures, fittings and furnishings.
The swimming pool terrace is very large and finished in beautiful stone and terracotta. The pool is large and in addition there is a small children’s pool for kiddies. A pergola provides ample shade when needed and there are plenty of sun loungers.
The villa also comes with some additional equipment - 3 e-bikes so guests can enjoy cycling getting out in the surrounding nature; there are also 6 paddleboards for use by the sea. For experienced sailors with their own insurance there is a Laser Pico.
Located on the North-East coast of Zakynthos, only five minutes drive to the small port of Agios Nikolaos which offers a variety of little tavernas, cafes and a mini market, ‘Old Wooden Doors’ is positioned in one of the most picturesque areas of Zakynthos. The famous shipwreck beach and blue caves are close by and boat trips run regularly to these two attractions of Zante from the little port.
Although ‘Old Wooden Doors’ is a collection of little cottages within a walled garden it has retained a feeling of a single private residence and offers a wonderful solution for large families or a group of friends. It has also been rented in the past for yoga retreats and seminars.
