Magical house taken straight out of a fairy-tale on the charming island of Hydra!

Villa Paramythi has an ethereal and magical feel with many beautiful and artistic touches. The evocative Greek word 'paramythi' meaning fairy-tale aptly describes this perfect holiday hideaway!
The house is surrounded by a thick, white stone wall out of which has been carved a delightful swimming pool which is fairly large by Hydra standards and is perfect for cooling off in the heat of the day or relaxing in the evenings with a glass of chilled wine. The built-in plaform seating with plenty of comfortable cushions near the pool is a wonderful place to relax. A little bridge links the pool area with an outside dining area decorated in blues and whites with a very pretty view over the rooftops of Hydra. The main access to the house is from this outside stone walled area.
On entering the hallway there is a beautiful double bedroom on the left. The main bathroom with shower and WC is also on this level. Further down the hallway, you enter the kitchen area which is interconnected to the living room.
The kitchen is well equipped and traditional in style. The stone sink reminds us of some nice touches from the past but the kitchen features all modern conveniences. It is a pleasant place to cook in a light and airy space where you can also entertain your guests in the adjoining living room.
The living room area is cleverly and comfortably appointed with stylish furnishings and an elegant dining table and chairs. The whole space appeals and feels very comfortable. French doors lead to a second little veranda which has a lovely view over the harbour and is a perfect spot for conversation after dinner, or coffee over breakfast.
Please note there are two new air-conditioning units installed on the upper level (summer 2022).
Downstairs, the full beauty of the original features of the house is evident. You enter a fairy-like place where the old wooden beams gnarled and twisted have been painted a chalky white while the breeze that rushes down the stairs cools the lower level. Vertical wooden timbers show the way down the hallway which has a double bedroom at one end and a bathroom with shower and WC opposite. To the left is a raised area with a double mattress and plenty of cushions which is a great space for a teenager to sleep. Beyond this area is a single bedroom. At the far end of the hallway beyond the double bedroom is a utility room with a totally separate outside space perfect for hanging laundry.
The villa has a Samsung LCD HD 32 inches Smart TV, a multi-room SONOS sound system connected to a private music library of more than 100,000 tracks of a variety of music genres as well as WIFi, dishwasher and washing machine. The property does not need air-conditioning the lower floor due to the thick stone walls and openings on both sides to allow the sea breeze to circulate. There are ceiling fans in both rooms on the upper level as well as two new air-conditioning units.
The houses of Hydra are located over four hills and all connected by stone steps and passageways. The location of the property is by no means as strenuous to reach as other properties on the island but guests should be aware that they need to be reasonably fit when visiting this island. The house is only about a 10 minute walk from the town, and the supermarket close by delivers groceries by donkey which adds to the charm of the location.
Please note that the property is not suitable for children under the age of 12 years due to the depth of the pool and some unprotected drops.

We all had an amazing time away and we would like to thank you for all your help and advice from booking the villa, taxis, ferry, donkeys to general advice around where to stay in Athens and what to do, it meant that the holiday was stress free and even more enjoyable.

We had a wonderful time in Villa Paramythi. We have been visiting Greece for 37 years, always sailing and always in the Ionian.
Hydra is completely unspoiled despite its fame and proximity to Athens. The absence of vehicles of any kind and the donkey transport system contribute to the magic. We are exceptionally fit having wandered the paths and steps of Hydra for a week!
Villa Paramythi is exceptionally pretty, full of character, has wonderful views and fabulous outdoor spaces. We loved the Sonos system and used it frequently (and quietly!). We walked frequently to Kamini and visited the fabulous Kodylenias Restaurant several times. We also loved Ostria restaurant in Hydra.
We also want to thank you for your help and organisation, especially your help in attempting to organise a second week's stay, unfortunately thwarted by the unavailability of ferry tickets.
We will certainly travel with Pretty Greek Villas again.

Just to let you know, we anjoyed our stay In Greece a lot. Paramythi villa felt like home away from home right from the very first moment:) It is a beautiful house, in a very picturesque spot, and we were very sad to be leaving it after a one week of our stay...
We wouldn't change a thing about it. Pepa was very helpful and extremely nice to us, so really there is nothing to complain about!

We had a wonderful week on Hydra and loved Villa Paramythi. It was the perfect villa for us (once we climbed those final steps!) and the views were stunning. We also very much enjoyed the pool and thought the villa was beautifully appointed throughout; very comfortable, with everything we needed to help to make our first visit to Hydra hugely joyful and memorable.
We enjoyed the island very much and I'm sure we'll plan to go again and, although we loved the villa, we may consider a house a little lower down the hill but, when we come to re-book, you never know, we might have forgotten the last little trek and I'm sure it did us the world of good - my husband managed to lose nearly 5 kilos, so he's especially thrilled!
