The House of the Shooting Star is a feast for connoisseurs of fine living. Domes and arches open onto lofty spaces with a cooling expanse of intricately decorated marble floors; Elegant white and cream shades are juxtaposed with dashing touches of contemporary art – all beautifully balanced with the very best comforts in mind.
The property is on three levels. A marble staircase leads to the first floor hallway. On the first floor there is an elegant Reading Room with fireplace and doors leading out onto the main veranda. Another door leads off the hallway into the main kitchen of the property which is very well equipped and with antique tiled floor. Through the arch in the hallway is a very spacious living room, elegantly and comfortably furnished with a formal dining area with chandelier and antique table and chairs for 10 guests. Doors lead out onto the main veranda with its huge, elegant arches and intricately patterned marble floor. The verandah has many areas for dining al fresco and with comfortable day beds and sofas for relaxing.
From the main hallway, a marble staircase continues up to the 2nd level where there are 2 elegant bedrooms: The main master bedroom suite has double bed and en-suite bathroom with shower and WC. This bathroom also has a decorative marble bathtub raised on a dais with spectacular views over the Bay of Hydra. The master bedroom suite has doors leading out onto the large upper terrace shared with the 2nd double bedroom. The 2nd bedroom has a queen sized, antique brass bed with en-suite bathroom. New air conditioning units have been installed to both bedrooms for the 2024 season. Doors lead from this bedroom to the upper level veranda which runs the length of the house.
On the ground floor of the property is a very spacious and comfortable guest wing which is fully accessible from the main part of the house via the marble staircase but which is totally self-contained with its own kitchen, living room and dining facilities.
Hewn from the granite of Hydra's mountains, the guest wing’s living room is a cool oasis providing comfortable couches in the sitting area with an abundance of cushions making this an excellent spot for a siesta or for curling up with a good book. There is also a breakfast serving bar and dining area with traditional stone oven and a very well equipped kitchen. Off the living room is a well appointed guest bathroom with shower. An inner hallway has access to a bathroom with bath and shower as well as 2 spacious double/twin bedrooms. The guest wing is beautifully furnished throughout with stylishly chosen antique furniture, paintings, objets d’art and a large library of books.
The property is surrounded by an unusually large and beautifully planted garden on the lower terrace offering shade and respite from the mid-summer sun with plenty of places to relax with the private pool close by for a refreshing dip. The views over the amphitheatre of Hydra and across the bay to the island of Dokos are truly memorable.
Hydra harbour with its array of waterfront tavernas, cafes and shops is about a 15 minute walk away. The sparkling bays and coves of Hydra are one of the few places where you will see dolphin and porpoise regularly. The nearest beaches to the property are about a 15 min walk away. There are some wonderful sandy beaches on Dokos Island opposite, on the far side of Hydra and on the Peloponnese coast opposite - all easily accessible by water taxi from Hydra harbour.
House of the Shooting Star offers guests the possibility to enjoy Mediterranean island life at its best in elegant, comfortable and stylish surroundings.
Please note that the sunken bath in the master bedroom may not function at certain times in the summer when the water levels on Hydra are low. The municpality can restrict the water pressure and the amount of water that runs on the island at certain times of the day.

Everything has been super, we know the villa from before and this was our third stay here. We normally change place to visit in May every year but we just cannot resist Hydra and the shooting star!
Your help (Marie-Louise) is another reason to use your services again. Perfect in all details! You are extremely helpful. We are experienced travelers and are used to make our own travel arrangements and stay out of the charter concept but your help to make a smooth trip here is essential.
As for your travel guide to Hydra I wonder if Tassoulas (and her husbands) place is the same as the place you call Ostria? (which is the name signposted at the door of the place I am thinking of). I think so from your description
Anyway, this (Ostria) has been a favourite place all years. This time we also found another very good one, on the more elaborated side, namely Techné. Could be added to your guide, I think.

Just want to thank you for all the help we have got from you! The week at the house of the shooting star has been totally marvelous. Our little group use to spend one week in May together in extraordinary houses every second year but we have never done so in Greece before, most of the time being in France, Italy or Spain. But wow, we said to ourselves that nothing can beat this so why look for something else now when we have found the paradise!
And although I've sometimes used agencies when finding and booking the right house I must say that you at Pretty Greek Villas
are the far most helpful, supportive and professional one I've ever come across. So a big thank you to you and your colleagues for significant contribution to our fabulous week!
As for the refund of the deposit I am awaiting your instructions!

Thanks for booking this house on Hydra, we have had a fantastic time and are reluctantly returning home tomorrow.
The house is beautiful and has a lot of great furniture / ornaments that would not be suitable for a young family - fear of breakage etc.
Practical arrangements worked fine, on arrival at Athens airport we took X96 Airport Express bus - took just an hour and direct to flying cat jetty, on arrival at Hydra there was a donkey man waiting but instead of 1 (for 2 bags we were carrying as requested) turned up with 3. The caretaker Janet was welcoming.
Thanks again for recommending the Shooting Star on Hydra we will be passing your company details onto others!
