Villa Yolanda is located above Mirabello Bay on the NE coast of Crete. From its hillside position it has panoramic sea views, and its location being off the beaten track is ideal for clients wanting to find a peaceful and traditional area of Crete.
The villa is all on one level and almost step-free (just two steps from the terrace to the pool). Older guests and those with mobility issues can enjoy the villa, extensive gardens and pool to the full.
The villa has an open-plan living room with dining area and fully equipped kitchen including large American-style fridge/freezer with water and ice dispenser. Traditional Cretan furnishings and artefacts give a homely appeal to the villa. French windows lead out to the main outdoor dining terrace overlooking the pool.
The villa has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms both with showers: A master double bedroom with en-suite bathroom; a 2nd bedroom with double bed, and a 3rd bedroom with 2 single beds. Bedrooms 2 & 3 share a bathroom with shower. Both double bedrooms have French windows leading to the terrace.
The villa is very well equipped including air-conditioning, WIFI, dishwasher, washing machine, and microwave.
There is a lovely outdoor dining area under a pergola shaded by a mature bougainvillea. There is also a separate outdoor dining area with a great barbecue and outdoor sink. The terrace has spectacular views over Mirabello Bay and with the setting sun, it is a perfect spot to enjoy a cocktail or chilled glass of wine.
From the pool there are infinite views over the sea with the island of Psira before you. In-built seating with cushions, sun loungers and umbrellas as well as an outdoor shower add to the comfort of the surroundings. There are extensive gardens, punctuated with impressive cacti and cascading colourful flowers making this a truly magical haven for guests. For the more active, there is even a mini football pitch.
The nearest village to the villa is approx 4.5kms distance where there is a mini-market, some cafes and traditional tavernas. The beach at Tholos is approx a 5 min drive - this is a sandy beach that is sheltered due to the island of Psira which lies in the bay. Across the bay is the historical island of Spinalonga (the former leper colony as featured in Victoria Hislop’s bestselling book The Island) and you can take a boat across to explore for the day. From the town of Ierapetra, small ferries make the crossing to Chrissi Island with its translucent water and astonishingly beautiful beach made of fine pearly shells. Many archaelogical sites are to be discovered within the Kavousi area such as Vrontas, Kastro, Azoria and the ruins of various Minoan settlements as well as a huge olive tree that dates back to around 4,000 years ago - possibly the world’s oldest. The Palace of Knossos (of minotaur fame) is located in Heraklion about 70kms from the villa.
This property is ideal for adults who would enjoy the solitude and peace of the surroundings and to explore some of the fascinating cultural and historical highlights of the area. It is also an excellent location to enjoy an early or late summer holiday since NE Crete has one of the driest and sunniest climates of Greece. Families with children are welcome but due to the pool, large cacti and 5m promontory on which the property is located children should be supervised at all times.
For car hire, we would recommend a reasonable sized car (medium) since this area is hilly and off the beaten track.
